Christmas Tree Tea Towels {Tutorial}

Hi there! I hope you had an excellent weekend! I was busy sewing up some fun Christmas related tutorials for you guys! Don't worry, these tutorials are quick and easy, so you have plenty of time to whip these up before December!  I had some left over scraps from my 25th and Pine charm pack from this project, and thought I'd better use every last bit of my charm pack, because I just love this line of fabric!

You all know how I have a slight obsession with toweling, right?  Well I came up with another project featuring my favorite toweling! A fun Christmas Tree Tea Towel!

You guys, this project is so darn easy! It literally took me about 15 minutes to make, and I am very happy with these darling little trees!  They are so fun and festive, and seriously require very little sewing.  You could jazz these up with all sorts of embellishments.  You could add some ric-rac, buttons, and any other trims you like! You could even put some cute little stars atop the tree.  Your options our endless on these trees!

Alright, let's whip up one of these together!

Turkey Tea Towel Tutorial

Hi there! Today I have a quick Thanksgiving project to share with you.  Thanksgiving is a favorite holiday of mine.  Not only because I am a foodie at heart, but because I love cooking.  Cooking and baking was my first passion.  In fact, when I was about 11 years old I asked for a mixer for Christmas.  I did get my mixer, and my own recipe box and cards.  It was awesome.  I remember sitting at the kitchen counter diligently copying my mom's recipe cards onto my own new recipe cards. It was probably my most memorable Christmas gift as a child!

I grew up sitting at the kitchen counter watching my mom cook.  I helped any way that I could, by peeling potatoes, chopping up vegetables, and stirring anything she'd let me!  My first memory of cooking with my mom was when I was about 5 years old:

She was putting a roast in the oven and I was helping her unwrap the beef bouillon cubes.  I have always loved cooking with my mom and Thanksgiving is a way that we can cook together.  Although, now I am mostly the cook, and she follows behind me and cleans up my messes (I am a very messy cook).  I can't wait for Thanksgiving this year, because it will be the first Thanksgiving that my whole family is together--we haven't done that in a very long time!

So I thought it would be nice to have some nice homemade touches to add to our Thanksgiving table. So I came up with this Turkey Tea Towel.

This is a really quick project, that you could whip up before Thanksgiving next week! All it is is some basic appliqué, and stitching around your pieces.  Super easy!

I used some fun colors for the Turkey's feathers! I wanted him to be nice and colorful! I used this awesome cross-weave fabric for the turkey, and I just love the look of it in person! You can find it here!  I appliquéd the turkey on some Natural Toweling.  I love this toweling, it has a great feel to it, and lovely color.  You can find it here!

Along with my love of cooking, I love old things.  The cookbook pictured in these pictures is an old vintage Watkins cookbook that my grandmother gave me when I was younger.  It's so fun to read the old recipes from that time! I have only made one recipe out of the book, which was a homemade ice cream recipe, but it was the best ice cream I've ever had! :)

The great thing about this pattern, is that you could appliqué this onto anything! Wouldn't some pot holders be fun?

Okay, what do you say, let's make one of these towels!

Cherie Jubilee - A New Quilt Kit

 Hi there!  I hope you are enjoying your week!  Today I want to share with you my newest pattern! But, first I'd like to tell you a little bit how I come up with my patterns and what inspires me.  I find inspiration everywhere.  I see patterns in everything.  When I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING! In fact, the other day I was watching a cartoon with my kiddos and there was a fun pattern on a house in the cartoon and thought that would make a really great quilt!

When I see something I really like, I try and jot it down before I forget!  Because chances are, if I don't write it down or sketch it out, it will be lost in my brain somewhere--never to be found again! ;) I also will make a pattern specifically for a line of fabric I love.  If I fall in love with a certain print or line, then I will come up with a pattern just for that line of fabric or inspiration piece.

I design a lot of my quilts in Adobe Illustrator.  Which I find is the easiest for me.  However, I have recently started designing in EQ7 for mac, and I have to say I am really enjoying learning how to use it and I especially like importing the fabrics and placing them in my designs.

The quilt kit I am going to share with you today, I found my inspiration from a store bought quilt.   I saw a pattern similar to this one that I am sharing, and thought it would make an excellent quilt to showcase larger prints.  So I made a note, and from there I came up with Jubilee.

Jubilee, has to be one of my favorite patterns I've designed.  Even though it is probably one of the simplest quilts, I love the simple blocks and the fact you can showcase those larger prints!  When I saw Cherie by Art Gallery, I fell in love and knew I wanted them to be used in the Jubilee pattern. I love the fun floral prints in this line, and I adore the bike print.  They are all so fun!  We've paired some of the Cherie prints with some blenders from Art Gallery and came up with a really great palette for this quilt.  It has a nice blend of prints that all compliment each other.

I hope you like Jubilee as much as I do!

You can find this quilt kit along with other quilt kits in the "kits" section of the shop! Be sure to check it out regularly, we are always adding new things! :)

Hexie Garland Tutorial {Guest Post}

Hi there!  I am so thrilled to be partnering up with Fort Worth Fabric Studio and to be a guest blogger here today.  My name is Amanda Lipscomb, and I am a primarily a quilter, although I dabble in all sorts of sewing.  I blog over at The Cozy Pumpkin and love sharing the projects I'm working on,  fun tutorials and patterns, and some of the sewing tips and tricks I learn along the way.  I hope you'll pop on over for a visit, and if you have time, drop me a line.  I love making new quilting/sewing friends!

HexieGarlandTutorialCover

Today I have a fun Hexie Garland project for you.  It's perfect for working on in the car or while sitting on the couch with some hot chocolate and a good movie!  I opted to work with BASICGREY's "25th and Pine" charm pack, but you could just as easily change out the fabrics to fit any occasion.

Quilted Box Pouch

Hi there! While I was at Quilt Market we stopped by the lovely Kate Spain's booth and saw her gorgeous new line, Pardiso.  I love, love, love this new line of hers! She was kind enough to give me a mini charm pack of her new collection.  I was so excited to get back home and make something beautiful out of it!

It didn't take me long to decide that I wanted to make a box pouch with this lovely fabric!  A girl can't have too many bags and zipper pouches in my opinion.  I have several pouches, and I use them all the time.  They are so handy and can be used for so many different things. They also make great gifts, and don't take too long to make, which I love!  Who doesn't love a quick project?!

(Scroll to the bottom for the giveaway info)

If you are scared to sew with a zipper, don't worry! I was too when I made my first ever zippered pouch!  However, I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to sew with zippers, and the more practice, you learn what works well for you and you will become a pro! ;)

So let's make one together!

Makeup Brush Roll-Up Tutorial

Hi there! I hope you all had a good Halloween weekend! My kids had so much fun dressing up and trick or treating.  It was the perfect temperature, and the kids got enough candy to last them until Christmas! I have already picked out all the Kit-Kat's and Almond Joy's, I also plan on weeding out some of the other chocolate and stashing it in my sewing room for later. ;)

Today I have a fun tutorial to share with you guys! This Makeup Brush Roll-up is so functional, and a cute addition to your makeup bag! This would make a fun gift or stocking stuffer for Christmas this year.  It doesn't take much time to whip these up, and they don't take up a lot of fabric either! So it's kind of a win-win!

Fabrics used in this makeup brush roll-up are from the Modern Lace Collection
